Walking
in and around the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA)
is encouredge, but should be done with local guides.
Short hikes can be arranged with us or the NCA headquaters.
Long walks can be adventurous and rewarding but need
some planning. Suitable walking routes include the
area from Oloti Crater to Embakaai Highlands and down
to the Great Rift Valley which are Lake Natron and Oldonyo
Lengaai (means Mountain Of God), the Northern Highland
Forest Reserve and the eastern Serengeti Plains around
Nasera Rock, Gol Mountains and Olkarien Gorge. All these
needs acompanied by a ranger.

Mt. Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro's
huge snowcapped summit dome, towering high above the
surrounding savanna, often with a giraffe conveniently
posing in the foreground, is one of Africa's all time
classic images it is the highest mountain in Africa
and one of highest volcanoes in the world. The lure
is irresistible, and a trek up 'Kili' is a popular aspect
of many people's visit to Tanzania. The trek is
even more attractive because with the right preparation,
you can walk all the way to the summit without the need
of ropes or technical climbing experience. The highest
point on Kibo is Uhuru peak (5896m ) and this is the
goal for the most trekkers.

Lake
Natron, 25 km north of Oldoinyo Lengai on the Kenyan
border, is a 60km long alkaline lake known fo rthe huge
flocks of flamingos that gather at certain part of the
lake at the end of the rainy season. Lake Natron has
no outlets so its size varies dramatically between seasons.
Theswampy marshes around the banks make access difficult
during much of the year. To visit the lake you need
a 4WD.
Oldoinyo
Lengai (mountain of god) an active volcano. The
area is also home to the Maasai people who have grazed
cattles for hundreds of years. This all adds up to an
excellent trekking area.
